Licuala Lodge is an award winning Queensland timber pole home, where the guest accommodation is separate to the main house. It is located in World Heritage rainforest, just 1.5 kms from the beach. We have a fabulous waterfall swimming pool, lush tropical gardens and we serve the yummiest brekky in all Queensland. The regal Southern Cassowary is a daily visitor to the Lodge, as are lots of other birdlife and wildlife. Included in the price are complimentary drinks – tea, coffee, soft drinks and BEER – yes, beer. Internet access is here, laundry facilities, catering facilities – why stay anywhere else ?
The Lodge is an award winning Queenslander pole home. Guest accommodation, which is separate to the main house, is fully ensuite. We have a great swimming pool with a waterfall feature and beach entry - it has just got to be the best in the area. The colourful grounds have a tropical feel to them - lots of native plants to attract scores of birds and butterflies, including the Ulysses. If you fancy a few cuttings from the garden just ask Mick (the head gardener, waiter, repair man etc..) - he will gladly oblige.
There is a large guest lounge - complete with TV, DVD, stereo, library, games (Trivial Pursuit, chess, backgammon etc..) and brochures for all the tour operators in the area. And all the tour operators pick up and drop off for free at the Lodge. (Gets better all the time!!) We have the full set of 12 Fawlty Towers episodes and 8 Yes Minister episodes on DVD - so if it is raining there is plenty of entertainment here at the Lodge. (Heaven - or what ??)
We have a resident cassowary that visits the Lodge each morning - so if you have not seen this magnificent and endangered bird in the wild - this is your chance. Other wildlife around the house include a pair of nesting Yellow Sunbirds and a very inquisitive Rusty Monitor.
Mission Beach is blessed with several excellent restaurants which are all close by. If you are a bit tired of eating out then by all means use our BBQ, and have a romantic candlelit dinner on our upper verandah overlooking the floodlit garden.
Extreme sports are available here - white water rafting and Sky Diving - but most of all you will be knocked over by the tranquility and serenity of Mission Beach.
So what else do you get for your money ?? Well, we serve the yummiest brekky on offer in all Queensland (probably !!). And how good is this folks - we offer complimentary drinks - tea, coffee, soft drinks and BEER. Wow !! what a bargain.
If you really insist, you can have a go on our ride-on mower -about two hours should do the trick. We have a couple of bikes that you can borrow, if you fancy a bit of excercise. Laundry facilities are here, iron and ironing board (surely not on holiday ??) and of course Internet access.
It's all here at Licuala Lodge - why stay anywhere else ??
Please note that the Lodge is NOT suitable for children under the age of ten.
From Cairns
Travelling South along the Bruce Highway, it is a 2 hour drive through beautiful tropical North Queensland. Just after an hour of travelling you will arrive at the fairly large town of Innisfail. Keep on the Bruce Highway - there is a right turn to be made as you leave Innisfail (signposted Tully) in order to stay on the highway. After about 40 minutes or so, you should come across the township of El Arish, and there is a left turn for Mission Beach. Follow the road (for about 14 kms) and just before entering Mission Beach you pass Clump Mountain on your left, and a few hundred metres further on there is a small retail estate on the right. Immediately after the shops take a right (signposted Cassowary Drive, Wongaling Beach, South Mission Beach, Tully). About one km on the right is Mission Circle - which has one of those blue B&B Accommodation signs on the corner. Simple!
From Townsville
A 2.5 hour drive North on the Bruce Highway, passing the spectactular Hinchinbrook Island. Just after the town of Tully there is a right turn for Mission Beach. Follow that road and after about 10 km you will see one of our BIG B&B road signs, telling you that you have another 9 kms to go. You will pass a police station and a school on the right hand side, then a smallish retail centre on the right (comprising of a supermarket, chemist, servo, butcher, video shop and a few more shops). In front of the shops is a big concrete cassowary - about 4 or 5 metres high. Mission Circle is on the left after you pass the shops - about 1 km. It has one of those blue B&B Accommodation signs on the corner. Too Easy!
